Space-Saving Closet Conversion Woodworking Plan

Closet ConversionBehind the door of most conventional closets is a lot of clutter and wasted floor space. What we wanted was a plan that not only solves the wasted space problem, but adds something of beauty to an ordinary-looking room.

The project begins with a simple carcase that you can build in the shop and then transfer to the bedroom for the final installation. To keep costs down, we used cherry on the outer surfaces only, and less-expensive birch veneer plywood for the basic skeleton.

We'll take you step-by-step through the entire building process, with detailed illustrations, tool set up diagrams, and shop tips for making this project run smooth and trouble free. This project originally appeared in Workbench magazine No. 263.
